Api’s Tiny Big Change
Api on the red dot for TEDxAlmere
(This interview is in English due to Api’s international character.)
On November 4th, the fourth edition of TEDxAlmere will take place. This year’s theme: Tiny Big Change. In the run-up to the event, everyone in Almere is invited to share stories on how they are making tiny big changes in this world. In this interview, Api the Dragon shares his Tiny Big Change.
Api please share your story with us:
Api >> Originally I was invited as a speaker on the TEDxAlmere stage, as I am one of Almere’s business leaders. But on November 4th I’m booked for the main stage at Iceland Airwaves festival. Not many may know this about me, but in my free time I like to host big parties; a hobby that is now getting a bit out of control as I get booked as a DJ more and more often. It’s funny, I really started from the bottom – once again – and now we’re here; me and my nerd herd in our office on the 29th floor of WTC Almere. And now as a DJ too, touring the world. I already had the private jet so honestly, I was off to an easy start.
OK Api, let’s get back to your Tiny BIG Change, because that’s what this item is about. You strive for world domination, not – in the first place – as a DJ, but mainly as a business leader. What do you wish to leave behind? What is your Tiny Big Change?
>> I was getting to that. People always want things to change, for the better of course. Their own better in particular. Not for nothing all politicians promise change. And there’s an endless amount of popular quotes on change, all of them true but not easy to live by. Actually, in life, when opportunity presents itself, not many people find it easy to adapt to that change. Or they won’t at all. They often want others to change, or wait on others to make the change. So my Tiny Big Change: be adaptable and open to change. How it has worked for me? Me and the herd are always on top of our game, wouldn’t you agree? This is only possible due to our ability to change. This may sound as something that only profits me but that’s not true. If everyone was open and adaptable to change, the world would be a much better place.
So thats your most important message: be adaptable to change?
>> Yes, that would be my Tiny Big Change: I embrace change, and I encourage others to do so too. Change is the only route towards growth and living your own legend. I feel you owe it to the world to live your legend. More proof? Well, I don’t miss opportunities. Like my new found life as a DJ: I never planned for it yet I’m embracing it. It’s just a new way to express myself, another way to spread my message and speak to people. Because I know music can change and unite people! It is a language of the world. And there’s so much we can learn from music. That being said, I will leave you with some lyrics from ‘Man in the mirror’ by a genius who certainly lived his legend, Michael Jackson:
I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change
